The City of Mexia sold five acres off East Highway 84 to Cen-Tex Bottling Co of Mexia led by Jack Brock and Tommy Brown owner of the local Coca-Cola firm. The land had belonged to the city since January 1882 after a $190 purchase from W A Parker and Rice. Senator John Tower visited recently and quipped about environmentalists. An adult Spanish class starts tonight in Mexia High School room 22 with Randall Teel as instructor. Mexia Riding Club meeting is set for Wednesday at 7 30 in Gibbs Memorial Library. Students have Friday off for inservice training.
Troy Miller of Mexia received the District Award for meritorious service to scouting at the Tehalanna District Awards Dinner held at Western Sizzler Steakhouse in Waco. Miller serves as Trinisota District chairman and attended with his wife Debbie and his parents.
Two year old Yolanda Diaz of Georgetown died in an Austin hospital after a rattlesnake bite received Sunday at a relative’s ranch near Leander. Parents said the child screamed and showed two fang marks before being rushed to Brackenridge Hospital where she died despite antitoxin.
Two more thefts were reported in Mexia. Johnny Wright reported two radiators stolen from his truck on Titus Street. Raymond Tollett’s bicycle was taken from the Middle School. One accident involved a 1970 Chevelle driven by Glenda Beene and a 1967 Chevrolet pickup driven by John Berry. Two arrests followed for disorderly conduct and bad checks.
Dow Jones 11 a.m. numbers show upbeat indices mostly lower led by the industrials and overall stock average slipping. The 30 Industrials sit at 813.84, down 7.19 points, with 20 Transportation at 212.70 and 15 Utilities at 112.83 as the broader market trends weaken.

The Limestone County Independent Cattlemen Association met for its annual program to elect officers and hear reports. President James Dawley presided as members from Milam and Corsicana attended and guest speaker Cash Cunningham spoke on beef imports and ICA activities.
