A 1969 Mexia High School graduate and sophomore business administration major, she earned the award based on academic achievement character and need.
Michael B. McGowan 17 of Bryan Texas was promoted to Eagle Scout at Henderson Elementary School. He earned 26 merit badges including mile swim and 50 mile awards, Order of the Arrow and Explorers. A senior at Stephen F Austin High School he serves on the student council and is active in football basketball and church activities.
Coolidge residents Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Holman and family conclude Thanksgiving at their ranch south of town then family time in Henrietta. The Holmans joined lunch with Mrs. Karnegay and Mrs. Holman’s mother Mrs. E. L. Holman. visiting relatives included Don Elrod and family of Snyder with Ollie Hill and Mrs. C. B. Love. Joe Wilson and Joseph Evans attended a Dawson funeral for Rod Wilson. Bobby Phillips of Farmers Branch spent Thanksgiving with Otho Hopkins parents.
The annual state employes dance will be Friday night at the National Guard armory. George Nethery orchestra of Waco will play. The event is open to all state employes, not only Mexia State School staff.

The Mexia Business and Professional Women's Club held its December meeting at Mrs. Bettye Morris home. Miss Imogene White spoke on individual family community responsibilities and the club’s duties to the city county state and nation. New members Brenda Chambers and Donna Sullivan were welcomed. The main business was arranging two Christmas parties one for the club on December 15 and another for residents at Mexia State School on December 6 at 7 p.m. in the TPEA building ward S3. Mrs. Ruth Ford West chairs the state school party arrangements with help from Mrs. Joe Patty Wilson.
