Mexia high school physics students, led by Senior Bob Goodman, launched a two stage rocket reaching about 1200 feet on Thursday morning and a second attempt Friday fell short due to upper stage misfire. The project is tied to the school JETS chapter with plans for more launches.

Heroic Pilot Dies After Saving School From Jet Crash
In San Diego a Navy Demon jet crashed near Nathanial Hawthorne School as 1,000 students near lunch. Pilot Ens Elbert Joe Hickiman 24 of Sioux City Iowa directed the plane away from the building before impact, dying in a wooded canyon with his parachute hanging.
