A Nevada sailors band on the battleship Nevada continued playing the Star-Spangled Banner as torpedoes struck the Arizona and planes strafed the deck. Amid explosions the bandleader Oden McMillan signaled courage, the crew rallied, and combat readiness surged aboard during the early Pearl Harbor attack.

Christmas Party Held Early For Boy With Cancer
Five year old Lance Cummings, battling incurable stomach cancer, enjoyed an early Christmas party at home in Narvon Pa after doctors at Chester County Hospital allowed him to go home. Family and friends donated gifts and support from as far away as Texas, while Lance and his siblings celebrated with his parents Mrs. Walter Cummings and Mr. Samuel Wagner.

Funeral Services Tuesday in Mart for Dan Black
Dan Black 73 died Sunday evening in a Mart nursing home. Funeral services are Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Littlepage Funeral Home in Mart. He was born in Mexia November 30, 1893 and lived in Mart most of his life. Surviving: four sons Bud and Fred Black of Mart Elmer Black of Groesbeck J R Black of Waco. a daughter Mrs Robert Mlemdng of Houston. several grandchildren and great grandchildren. four sisters Mrs Cecil McDonald of Shiloh Mrs Jack Key of Houston Mrs Chink Ellis of Sweeney Mrs Steve Campbell of Huntsville. six brothers Lee Dee Elijah Allen John Black of Mexia and George Black of Houston.
