Johnson boots on Navy duty after war vote
On December 8 1941 Lyndon B Johnson voted in Congress to declare war on Japan and Germany. The next day he volunteered for active duty in the Navy and became the first congressman to put on uniform. He received the Silver Star for gallantry in action in the South Pacific.
