Mexia High School schedules a final polio shot for Friday December 6 marking the completion of a three dose program. Local doctors will administer the third inoculation with prior shots spaced one month and six months apart. Students thank doctors and school officials for cooperation.
William Giifion Shortnacy of Garland Texas was charged with murdering his step daughter Sheila Nell Murdock after admitting he struck her for not buttoning her overalls. The three year old died of brain injuries after being hospitalized in Rockwall Parkland medical care last week. The mother Mandy Shormacy 21 worked while Shortnacy 20 baby sat the children.
The Senior and Junior F H A classes held an International Relations meeting November 25 at the high school. A float was approved for the Christmas parade in Mexia on December 7. Principal Gilbert Smith spoke on customs and habits of different countries. Laqueta Ellis won first prize in Greek costume. Vonna Price wore a Hawaiian outfit. Elaine McElroy dressed as a person from Guam. Myra Avila wore a Dutch costume.
Driver Roscole Westbrook had a tire blowout that started a fire destroying a truck trailer and its cargo of 33,000 pounds of soap. Police described the melted soap creating a large glob over the charred remains of the trailer.
Four San Antonio men were charged in a case involving gun smuggling authorities said. The defendants face federal counts and could face significant penalties if convicted.

Wilhelm Heger a self described hair researcher started a three and a half year sentence in Munich for giving fake hair treatments to bald persons. Testimony showed no growth from his methods and that he collected about $2380 during 1954 from clients seeking hair restoration.
Three soldiers died at a Aiken South Carolina motel Sunday from carbon monoxide poisoning. Army officials identified the deceased and continued investigations into the incident.
Authorities at Fort Gordon Georgia on Monday identified three youths involved. Rodney Davidson 18 from Corpus Christi Texas Norman Robert 18 from San Diego California and Edward L Lloyd 22 from Detroit Michigan were named in the report.
