SHAMROCK Tex UP A young outlaw held a posse at bay with 150 officers and killed his half brother by mistake with a sawed off shotgun. Jim Whiteard 20 of Phoenix admitted the fatal shot and faces murder charges as the posse and deputies pursued them after they killed Victor Lee Stephens 19 and wounded two deputies. Myers 32 was later found dead as officers captured Whiteard in the Texas Panhandle following a 12 hour gun battle. Whiteard said he mistook his half brother for a peace officer and waited to be taken after the shooting.

In Los Barraganes, police chasing a bandit fired into a crowded dancehall, killing seven people and wounding one. The bandit escaped, and several women and children were among the dead.
Work on Highway 14 between Mexia and Wortham advances to a modern two lane county standard. Crews replace two hazard prone Tehuacana creek bridges with a reinforced concrete span and build a new wide bridge near Wortham. Road bed leveling will improve sight lines and safety ahead of a 300 day completion under contractor Rodney D. Larson and Collins Construction, supervision by Elton B. Evans.

Survived by husband Troy Trotter two daughters a brother a sister a grandson and her parents.

The Supreme Court refused to review Mansfield Texas school trustees' appeal against desegregation of the Mansfield high school. The Fifth Circuit ruled the trustees acted illegally in denying admission to Negro children, prompting earlier integration tensions and appeals for immediate orders to desegregate.
Limestone county residents from Sandy and Woodland communities near Mexia plan a meeting at the Echols Negro school tonight at 7 30 to map a plan to keep livestock off public roads. Attorney Owen F Watkins supports slow signs near the Echols school for child protection. A similar meeting was held years ago but without a solution.

A fire at Nabors Cleaners on North Sherman Street Mexia was extinguished quickly with light damage. The blaze started in a drying machine and caused only damage to woodwork around a door. Firemen responded promptly and no extensive damage occurred.
