Statewide action targets 62 naturopaths in 27 Texas counties accused of practicing medicine without licenses. The raid involved 32 assistant attorneys general, the State Board of Medical Examiners, district attorneys, deputies, and police, following undercover probes and staged medical examinations to expose alleged fraud.
State Senator William T Moore of Bryan will speak at Mexia Rotary noon meeting on Thursday. Vernon Jones arranged the program. Also noted are curb and gutter work resuming at Crest Line housing after weather delays and a small decline in Mexia post office receipts from November 1956 to 1957.
Sammie Mae Robinson 49 of Mexia dies at a Mexia hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Grove Island A M E Church in Teague with Rev. Leonard Harris in charge. Survivors include her mother Martha Ross of Teague two daughters Pauline Kelley of Houston and Myrtle Lee Harris of Mexia and three grandchildren. Dorsey Keatis Funeral Home of Mexia handling arrangements.
Warmer conditions across Mexia and central Texas with clear to partly cloudy skies. Lows around 41 this evening and highs near 69 tomorrow as warmer trend continues through Tuesday.
Teague hosts an Inter-City Rotary Forum tomorrow with clubs from District 587 expected to attend along with Mexia Rotary members. The event begins at 3 pm at the Teague Public Library, with a 6:30 pm dinner in the Teague First Baptist Church social room and a following meeting. Benny Hughes of Beaumont leads the forum, joined by District Governor Dr Norman Crawford of Belton.
Civilians in Carnike England complained that local civil defense workers used a realistic cue for a drill by detonating an explosion to simulate a misfired nuclear missile. The blast shattered windows at the post office church and several homes and frightened residents.
In BAY CITY Texas 46 year old Mexican mother Manuela Carreon continues a six day 378 mile pilgrimage to the Mission of Our Lady of San Juan after her son Alfonso 27 was acquitted of murder in Galveston. She walks about 12 hours daily despite swollen feet and cold nights sleeping in motels floor only. Her husband Texas City vegetable peddler follows in a vehicle as she endures meals of cookies and coffee and seeks divine aid to complete the journey.
The annual Christmas mystery shopper contest starts in Mexia sponsored by the Jaycees with 28 merchants donating prizes. The 1957 shopper has been chosen and the first clue refers to a Texas native not always living in Mexia. Sales slips dated that day are required from participating firms.
United Press tallies show 507 highway fatalities from 6 pm Wednesday to midnight Sunday across the nation. Including planes and miscellaneous accidents, total holiday deaths reach 617, surpassing some breaks and trailing the 1957 Christmas toll. In Texas 27 deaths occurred from Thanksgiving accidents. 14 of them from traffic.
Charlies Williams of Van Horn has been named minister of the Milam Street Church of Christ in Mexia. He will move to Mexia early next year when the church shifts to its new building on North Ross Avenue. Williams, 29, is married with two daughters aged four and 17 months, and holds a B A from Abilene Christian College. He led a service in Mexia mid November and succeeds KL Colley who moved to McAiney months ago. Bible School teachers planned space use in the new building and selected new teachers at a Friday meeting venue hosted by Marvin Banks.
A mass rally in Maebashi urged retrial for American GI William S. Girard over a firing range death last January. Japanese prosecutors were urged to Tokyo to depoly whether to tery Girard.
The Mexia High School Band Boosters Club will meet at 7 30 tonight in the band hall. They will discuss plans for the marching contest scheduled for Thursday in Mexia and President Bobby Roberts urges full attendance.
About one thousand residents on Kauai sought shelter as Hurricane Nina approached with 0 mph winds. Red Cross workers were not on site early today. no major damage was reported on Hawaii's first recorded hurricane event.
A merchants meeting approved a Downtown Mexia Autorama showing 1968 automobiles December 12 and 13 with cars on Commerce Street between New Kinney and Railroad. A Downtown Family Shopping Night and a $100 savings bond prize are planned, with participation from local dealers and a helicopter display hoped for.

In Sherbrooke Quebec a Sunday fire swept an eight room frame house killing eight children. Marie Ange Denault 92 and Lionel Denault 38 suffered burns while trying to rescue the children. Denault escaped through a ground floor window as Mrs Denault and another son returned from mass to find the blaze.
Six Mexia residents attended the 79th annual Texas State Teachers Association convention in Dallas which ended Saturday. Attendees included Mexia Superintendent A. O. Bowen and County Superintendent and Mrs. B. E. Sims with several others. John Kennedy spoke at the opening general session, introduced by Lyndon B. Johnson who also spoke at a Texas Classroom Teachers Association breakfast. The gathering featured sectional meetings and concluded with no House of Delegates meeting. Mrs. Sadie Ray Powell of San Antonio was elected president for the coming year. Governor Price Daniel and Charles M. Rogers received distinguished service awards for devotion to education.
Limestone County sheriff reports Alfred Johnson attempted to forge a key to open a cell door yesterday. He was previously caught months ago trying to break into the County Clerk's office. The sheriff said no attempt was made for a far break and Johnson could have escaped if the cell had opened.
In Toccoa Georgia a Deer Hunters Club reports a member killed a diver in one day. The event highlights hunting activity and local club achievement amid regional traditions.
Mexia Daily News asks children in Mexia and nearby towns to send letters to Santa Claus via 3unia care of the paper. Letters published then forwarded to the North Pole. Santa arrives in Mexia Saturday riding the Chamber float in the Christmas parade and will distribute candy at city hall and Dunbar school.
Sherman Texas freight train struck a gravel truck at a grade crossing today derailing the engine and one car and tearing up the track. Truck driver ER W Meredith of Sherman escaped with minor injuries.
Nine high school students attended classes at Central High School without troopers on duty today. The visit reported no incidents or trouble as students resumed normal activities.
Gov Pitre led a group of high school students in cornerstone laying ceremonies for the new state supreme court building on the Capitol grounds in Austin. The event highlighted the project and its civic significance.
