Mexia Jaycees unveil merchants and donated prizes for a forthcoming Mystery Shopper Contest set to begin Saturday. Participating businesses include Bi-Stone Savings Buck's Appliance Dairy Queen Georges Lumberjack Penney's Sears Mexia Theatre and many others offering certificates, goods, meals, and services to attract shoppers.
The Ford Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Youth Department hosts its annual Christmas program this Sunday at 2 30 pm. Special guest group Sincere Wonders will perform along with members from Smith Chapel Wortham First Baptist Sardis and Antioch. Candy punch and cookies will be served. Fire Captain George Fitch reports eight calls for November. Six city calls and two county calls included two residential dwellings one commercial building two auto fires a grass fire and a miscellaneous fire. The month exceeded the previous year’s count by one and was four fewer than November 1970.
Funeral services for Miss Lou Jewel Busby 60 of Mexia are set for Sunday at 2 30 p m in Launza Chapel United Methodist Church Mexia with Rev S W Curtis officiating burial in Woodland Cemetery. She died Wednesday in General Mexia Hospital born Freestone County 1903 and lived in Freestone and Limestone counties. Surviving aunt Mrs Leola Bowers Waco niece Mrs Eula Mae Lounza Daweon Mexia and many relatives. Dorsey Keatts Funeral Home in charge.
About 300 lawyers will attend the Central Texas Lawyers Assembly at the Joe C Thompson Center UT in Austin on Friday December 1. Presiding is Joel W Westbrook from Waco. Speakers include Royal Brinl Dallas on winning a case before evidence opens and Bill Edwards Corpus Christi on Ten Two Jury Verdicts.
Lily May Swanger 79 of Marquez dies Thursday at General Mexia Hospital. Funeral set for Saturday 11 a.m. at Marquez Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Petty officiating. Burial in Marquez Cemetery. Survived by brother Tom Daniel, sister Lizzie Grayson, and nephews including Dr. William L. Carrington. Blair Stubbs Funeral Home in charge.
Funeral services for Naomi Anise McHargue of Wortham are at 2 30 p m in Walker Chapel with Paul Gevelin officiating. Burial follows in Wortham Cemetery. She died Wednesday in Wortham Hospital. Survived by husband Jim, son Dwight, daughter Jacqueline Collier, niece Mrs John Eade of El Paso, three grandchildren and a great grandchild. Walker Funeral Home in charge.
