Dick Ray Attends Methodist Conference at Mineral Wells

Mexia Christmas Lights Go On Tomorrow Evening

Mexia plans a festive downtown lights turn on tomorrow evening with hundreds expected to attend. Jaycees finish decorating tonight at 7 PM as bells are hung on light posts and extra lights added citywide. Santa Claus arrives Tuesday with the Black Cat band, handing candy to children at the city auditorium and visiting nearby schools. Family Night Tuesday offers prizes for shoppers who sign at Mexia stores, and Santa will visit Mexia each Saturday in December.

Truman asks Congress for 17.98 billion in war funding

President Truman urged Congress to approve 17 978 247 000 for Korean War operations and to expand armed forces and atomic energy capacity. Men May Enlist In Air Force In Three Grades

M/Sgt William H Rosser at the Mexia recruiting station announced men with up to two dependents may enlist in the Air Force in grades one two or three which correspond to private corporal and sergeant. Active duty airmen including reservists may enlist immediately regardless of dependents.

Woman Hangs Self in Fort Worth Jail

A young woman held in the Tarrant County jail on a mental health hold since November 23 was found hanging in her cell today, authorities said.

Mother saves son as she dies in highway crash

In Houston a 32 year old mother Delma Lee Holst killed after hurling her three year old son to safety seconds before a car struck her and another vehicle. Deputies blame the crash on a passing south bound car and note Leonard Monte and William Bergenzer involved with injuries and charges.

UN Forces Form New Defense Ring Near Pyongyang

American and British units completed a new defensive perimeter 25 to 35 miles from Pyongyang as near daily fighting with Chinese and North Korean forces intensified. Marines and 7th Division troops withdrew, anti-aircraft batteries opened fire on Pyongyang airport, and reports said Chinese divisions with tanks moved toward the city while the UN warned of possible parachute drops.
