South Vietnam faced more than 50 rocket and mortar assaults across the country with follow up infantry actions in scattered spots. The northern zone and central highlands bore the brunt as 14 of 45 provinces came under fire. A Special Forces camp near the Cambodian border held out against about 500 attackers while Marines fought to repel Vietnamese regulars near Da Nang and to retake Marble Mountain compound at Marble Mountain base.
FAA figures show 23 659 women pilots active in the United States. As of January 1, 1968, 13 173 were student pilots, 8 775 private pilots, 1 479 commercial pilots, 7 as airline transport pilots, and 178 held other ratings such as glider, lighter than air, or rotorcraft.

LUBBOCK AP report says garbage collectors mainly Mexican Americans struck Thursday in a labor dispute.
