Beiruit August 18 Haj Amin Husseini grand mufti of Jerusalem urged all Arab nations to send arms and troops into Jerusalem to prevent Jewish annexation of the Holy City. He claimed irregular forces held Arab lines and said Jewish forces had offensive moves in the city in recent days. The mufti estimated 15 000 fighters but warned they could not hold Jerusalem against rising Jewish attacks. The only hope, he said, was for Arab governments to order armies into the city immediately to prevent Jewish capital status for Jerusalem replacing Tel Aviv.

She died yesterday afternoon after years of illness in a coma since Monday. Her husband son two nurses and a maid were at the bedside. Mrs Mariette Elizabeth Garner was born in the 1870s to Peter J and Mary Elizabeth Rheiner. Her childhood home was a log house on a ranch 22 miles from Uvalde.
