An Illinois Legal Aid attorney says claims two Illinois children were kept at Dallas private school Children’s Haven for the mentally retarded are inaccurate. He describes the siblings as profoundly retarded and says they were properly placed and improved, while noting the facility as better than many Texas institutions.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Heggins 62 of Buffalo will be held Tuesday at New St. Holland Baptist Church with Rev. L A Hancock officiating and burial in Sand Hill Cemetery. She died Friday at 3 45 am in John Sealy Hospital Galveston born Sept 25 1910 in Leenan County and lived there all her life. Surviving: husband Martin Heggins Fort Worth daughter Alma Johnson Fort Worth two stepsons Eddie Lee Heggins Los Angeles John Heggins Phoenix eight sisters Fort Worth Houston Mexia three brothers Frat Worth Ennis four grandchildren three great grandchildren. Dorsey Keatts Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Alma trene Lucas 76 of 917 East Palestine dies after arriving at General Mexia Hospital at 12 45 AM. Funeral Tuesday at 3 in Corley Porter Chapel with Rev. Alan Brown officiating. Burial in Mexia Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters Mildred Marvel and Sybil Eubanks and a granddaughter with great grandparents and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers named Bounds Fetcher Suttle Williams Nabors Franklin.
Mrs. Katie Bonner Semple, formerly of Mexia, died Saturday in El Paso. Funeral services were held today. She is survived by four sisters, Louise Johnson and Dimple Mae Worter of Dallas, Carrie Mae Everett of Fort Worth, Mattie Clyde Parsley of Owensboro Kentucky, and a twin brother Edwin P. Bonner of Dallas.
George Franklin Richardson 74 of Thornton died Saturday in General Mexia Hospital. Funeral Sunday at Central Baptist Church Thornton with Rev. Blackshear and Rev. Dillard officiating. Burial in Thornton Cemetery. Born December 12 1898 in Limestone County he was a retired farmer and rancher. Pallbearers were VFW members from Mexia. Blair Stubbs Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Pearl Henderson of Mexia died Saturday at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at 11 in Ford Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Mexia with burial in Henderson Cemetery. Survived by husband Rev L Henderson six daughters one brother 17 grandchildren one great grandchild and 12 great great grandchildren.
Charles Henry Koonce 75 of Groesbeck died Sunday morning at 12:16 in South Limestone Hospital. He was born December 24 1899 and moved to Groesbeck in 1972 and was a retired farmer. Surviving are brother Grover William Koonce and several nieces and nephews. Kibler Funeral Home Groesbeck in charge.

The Rev James T Draper pastor of First Southern Baptist Church Del City Oklahoma is named director of the Dallas First Baptist Church staff and assistant to pastor Dr W A Crigwell The church is described as the world s largest Southern Baptist church with about 20000 members Draper previously led congregations in Bryan Tyler San Antonio Iredell Kansas City and became Del City pastor in March 1970.
Gov. Dolph Briscoe will visit Japan in early September to explore markets for Texas products and attract Japanese investment. He will be joined by Texas industrialists, marking the first Texas governor led trade mission to a nation outside North America. Briscoe plans to address the World Trade Center Club of Japan in Tokyo.
