Jack Keys, with a broken jaw, rests comfortably at General Mexia Hospital after a freakish accident at the local Post Office. Delbert Bowden died in the same incident and funeral services are held at First Baptist Church this afternoon.
The Mexia Lions Club hosts a Junk Jamboree garage sale Friday and Saturday behind Harrison Furniture at Paris and Palestine streets. Proceeds fund high school parking lot debt relief after the club underwrote the project.

AP marketbasket survey shows grocery bills rising in 12 of 13 cities from July 23 to 31 after price controls eased. Eggs up to 85 cents a dozen in Seattle, pork chops rise in most cities, with 11 of 13 cities seeing increases July 1 to 23 and a further jump by month end.
Mexia city commissioners met Tuesday in called session at City Hall to consider a request by Bob Fain that the city assume maintenance on water lines in the Tamarisk Addition near the city limits. The vote was to take the matter under advisement pending reports from the City Manager and City Attorney. The council also accepted a bid from Womack Insurance Company as insurance agent of record for most coverages, and Mayor Fortson appointed James Stanford to review group life and health bids. Members present included W L Sewell Jack Floyd and Cecil Farris.
August 3 and 4 feature three professional TRA rodeo performances with six events. Added $100 per event, $30 entry fees. tickets open Thursday 2 pm to 6 pm. Dance nights headlined by The Marlins of Dallas. additional horse racing and children's activities planned.
Mexia schools announce season football tickets go on sale Monday August 20 for option holders at the Administration Building business office from 8 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. General public sales begin August 27. Prices are 2 dollars for reserved seats 1 75 dollars for general admission and 74 cents for students. First home game is September 21 at 8 p.m. versus Teague. No student tickets at the gate.
The Mexia Jaycees sponsor a community clinic at Mexia Veterinary Hospital on the Teague highway. Rabies vaccines cost 2.50 per shot and a flea and tick dip is 0.50. Clinic hours are 8 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. local time.
Gov. Dolph Briscoe urged Secretary of Agriculture Earl Butz on Tuesday to declare Limestone County a disaster area due to rain wind and hail that damaged crops homes and equipment. The storms from June 3 to July 2 caused about 150 000 in damage and a federal declaration would open low interest loan aid for affected farmers and businesses.
Dr Mouzan Biggs spoke before Mexia Lions and guests at the Southern Kitchen urging that all people are in the people business. He urged remembering individuals from paperboys to service station attendants and stressed listening between spouses and coworkers. He noted leaders succeed by choice and action and announced a garage sale to pay off a $3600 note on the high school parking lot with donations invited. Guests included Bill Catchings of Fort Worth and Glenn Craig of the Northeast Waco Lions Club.
