Limestone County Agriculture Group Meets for Program
Dr. Charlie Meadows of Southwest Spray and Chemical led a program in Groesbeck for the Limestone County Agricultural Workers Association on preparing cotton for mechanical harvesting and defoliation. The group, formed two years ago to link agricultural agencies and share new developments, is chaired by Ceril Johnson of Groesbeck with Dale Brown of Mexia as vice chair and Hal Storey of Groesbeck as secretary.

Political boss George B Parr was cleared in 79th District Court of assault with intent to murder Cristobal Ybanez. The indictment was dropped after Parr had previously pleaded guilty and paid a $150 fine for aggravated assault in the same incident.

Season's First Bale of Cotton Ginned at Coolidge
The first bale of the 1954 cotton crop was ginned at the Independent Gin in Coolidge. Grown by Jim Jensen on his farm west of town, the bale weighed 566 pounds from 2480 pounds of seed cotton. Premium amount pending. last year's first bale on August 6 earned Robert Wilson a $100 premium and 36 cents a pound. The 1954 bale is expected to be sold late in the week.
