Early Morning Fire Destroys Mexia Hotel

Nationwide river and harbor allocations total more than 30 million dollars, with a 1 million dollar allotment for the Sabine Neches waterways in Texas. Other funds cover Galveston harbor and ship channels, Texas City, Port Aransas, and Houston. Major Schley leads Texas operations under U S district engineers for the spending. The Sabine Neches allotment deepens a key oil, lumber, and merchandise shipping channel.

Sumpter School to Repeat Play

The Sumpter Street PTA will repeat a play staged weeks ago by the Priday Club. About 250 pupils from Sumpter Street school participate as students and teachers prepared the program. The show features Mr. and Mrs. Auxiliary giving their daughter Have in marriage to Mr. Participle Seen. A large attendance is expected for the Friday April 3 8 o clock performance in the high school auditorium.

Up and Down Mexia Fault and Gasoline Stock Shifts

The report notes potential gasoline stock shrinkage as large firms enter foreign markets for purchases. The 1924 gas production reached about 9 billion gallons, boosting stocks by 104.6 million gallons to roughly 1.18 billion. The January 1925 refinery operations report is awaited, with 1924 daily domestic gasoline demand at about 21.26 million gallons, up 16 percent from 1923. Texas led consumption in 1924 at 374.88 million gallons. In January Texas usage rose about 20 percent year over year. An oil deal in Okmulgee involves Independent Oil and Gas, Kingwood Oil, and CG L McMahon purchasing 240 acres for 30000, offsetting a Wilcox sand well producing 700 barrels daily. Showers Relieve Western County Drought as Farmers Plan Seed

Point Enterprise Pupils Tour Radley Poultry Farm

The Point Enterprise School group visited the Radley white Leghorn poultry farm near Mexia on Groesbeck road. They toured the 10,000 egg incubator in operation, observed chicks, learned trap nesting, and sang a thanksful song to Mr. and Mrs. Radley after hours of inspection.

J P Fitch regional scout executive announced a new Limestone County scout executive will begin within a day or two and lead what is billed as the most active Boy Scout program the Texas county has seen. The arrival and name are pending, with Fitch staying in Mexia for several days to launch the effort. He helped form the council and manage the funding campaign.

Austin April 1 James Ferguson husband of Governor Ma Ferguson says the law will not be interfered with regarding the electrocution of Sydney Welk of Darlas for murder and Lavannie Twitty granted a six day reprieve. Welk and Twitty were to die in Huntsville on April 1.

Roxana Files Two Drilling Permits in Navarro Co Texas

Roxana Petroleum Co. has two applications on file with W P Laugh ter deputy supervisor of the oil and gas division Texas Railroad Commission. The permits request wells Nos 1 and 2 on the W T Smith 25 acres lease in the John Havens survey in Navarro County. Drilling has reportedly begun.

Oil production declines across most regions in week ending March 21

The American Petroleum Institute reports a national daily average of 1,944,700 barrels, down from 1,949,200 the prior week. East of California drops to 1,342,700 barrels, Gulf Coast up to 101,050, and Southwest Texas down slightly. Mid-Continent totals fall to 1,003,100 barrels with Smackover heavy oil excluded.

AUSTIN April 1 The Court of Criminal Appeals affirms one death penalty and one life sentence. W T Aven convicted of poisoning his wife in McLennan County received the death penalty and Henry Thomas was also involved in the decision.

Carpenter Hotel Fire Destroys Carthage Building in Fire

A cook stove fire early Wednesday destroyed the Carpenter Hotel on Paris Street Carthage with no injuries. Mrs Emma Wells widow owner, with no insurance, faced total loss estimated at 6000 dollars as flames threatened nearby structures before firefighters saved adjacent buildings. About 22 guests were evacuated. the hotel, a two story frame structure, was built in the boom era and losses included the building and belongings.

Southern Pacific Gains Control of Sap Railroad

The Interstate Commerce Commission approved the Southern Pacific acquiring control of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass by purchasing 9854 shares for 236600 dollars.
