Local Dallas Kids Head to Texas Camp for Muscular Dystrophy
Forty three Dallas area children including three from Mesquite travel to Athens Texas for a week long MDA camp for youths with muscular dystrophy and related neuromuscular diseases. The Randell twins from Baldwins Spring attend for the fourth year with new cameras. volunteers, companions, and nurses support the 95 person group. The camp, open free to patients in Dallas East Texas and Sherman Denison, costs about 8000 dollars and is funded by the Jerry Lewis Telethon and local fundraisers.

Bicentennial Quilt Drawn By Mesquite Senior Citizens Club
Mesquite Senior Citizens Club members built a large Bicentennial quilt over three months. Essie Busby conceived the design with Georgia Cashin drawing history squares from Indians to moon landing. Raffle tickets at $1 support the club as the quilt will be raffled on July 4, 1976 during celebrations.

Two Hostages Released by African Guerillas in Tanzania
Two Stanford University hostages Carrie Jane Hunter of Atherton California and Emilie Bergman of The Netherlands were released after five weeks in a jungle hideout. Hunter, a Stanford student, and Bergman traveled by boat to Tiogoma Tanzania arriving around 8:15 a.m. local time. A third hostage, Steven Smith of Garden Grove California, remains in captivity as of the report.

Weldon Lacy urges Mesquite residents to join the three day Bicentennial events on Town Square starting July 4 with 10 am musical entertainment and a 2 pm Bicentennial Queen Pageant at Mesquite High School Auditorium. The schedule includes square dancing, a flag dedication ceremony, a 2 pm parade, a best costume contest, a street dance, and an interdenominational worship service July 6.
