Robbery at Piggly Wiggly in Mesquite
A man armed with a .45 pistol robbed the Piggly Wiggly at 1835 Gus Thomasson Rd in Mesquite at 2 50 am on Sunday. He took cash from the register after selecting bread and milk, then fled the Northridge Shopping Center store. Witnesses described the suspect as about 60 tall, 145 pounds, wearing a black Nehru shirt and black pants. Mesquite detectives investigate.

Mark Stephen Spriggs of 1652 Poplar Circle Mesquite suffered a compound fracture of the right leg in a motorcycle accident Friday. Police report say the 17 year old rode a 1972 Suzuki in the 1660 block of Poplar when it collided with a parked 1970 Plymouth. He was taken to the hospital in a Mesquite Fire Department ambulance. Officer J W Lunday investigated the mishap.

Funeral services held for Rebecca Martin 16
Rebecca Ann Martin, 16, of 1609 Springbrook Mesquite, died after being struck by a pickup truck near Granbury Friday at 8 pm. Services were at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Pollard officiating. She was a Mesquite High School junior and active in Shiloh Terrace youth groups and a planned Christian mission tour. Burial followed at Laurel Oaks.
