Flood Control Plans Explained to Council
Jim Adams of Turner Colle and Braden told City Council in a Monday work session about the Southwest Mesquite drainage project. The plan would use a network of channels and about three lakes to store floodwater, covering 402 acres in Sherwood Forest and 149 acres in Dallas within the Hickory Creek watershed. The project aims to reduce housing displacement by keeping waterways on a dry status between storms and requires about 69 acres of land for right of way with no relocation of homes planned.

Water use in Mesquite shows drop while NTMWD bond deal cuts costs
From January through May 1977 Mesquite and 11 NTMWD cities used 6.738 billion gallons, down from 6.458 billion in 1976 for the period. Garland led with 2.328 billion. bond refinancings on June 1 reduced average bond interest from 6.34% to 5.26%, saving about 1.473 million dollars.
