Rep. T. H. McDonald of District 33 argues for annual Texas legislative sessions after reviewing the 64th Legislature. He cites 3,400 bills in 88 days and highlights education funding, school finance reform, and state growth measures as key outcomes and needs.
Chapter 175 of the Disabled American Veterans in Mesquite to sponsor a July 2 dinner at Lakeside Activities Center Galloway at Gross St. Commander Gene Patrick announces 25 seats left on a first come basis. Guest speaker Cong Alan Steelman will take questions after remarks. tickets cost 2.50 and proceeds go to Chapter 175.
Plans proceed for the Horizon Committee Eternal Flame project a Mesquite Bicentennial Commission effort with a memorial in Mesquite Cemetery honoring all Mesquite veterans. Co sponsored by local military groups including VFW American Legion AmVets Disabled Vets and D A R. Donations of 50 or more will be inscribed on the monument with donor names. The dedication is set for early fall 1975 at Mesquite Cemetery.
AMVETS Post 10 hosts a benefit dance Friday June 27 at 8 p.m. at 528 South Galloway with Kinfolks providing music and KBOX's Peck and Penny also appearing. Admission is 2.50 per person and proceeds go to the Roy Daniels Family. Public invited.
Sam Giancana longtime Chicago mob head was killed at his suburban Oak Park residence. The 65 year old man was found shot multiple times in the basement by a caretaker with police saying no weapon or signs of burglary were evident. Authorities noted Giancana had been named in CIA related plots to assassinate Fidel Castro from a Senate investigation.
Mrs. Joseph McCabe found two men burglarizing her Jackson home. She persuaded them to stop and felt sorry for her family’s hardship. The burglars returned a table and left a $20 bill they had set aside.
About half of Ogden Utahs 74000 residents are asked to stop showers wash cars and water lawns while crews fix a broken pipeline. Acting City Manager Larry Hunter says the city has about a two week water supply if people obey. Violators can be prosecuted under city law.
A senior Scotland Yard detective reported positive evidence that the Earl of Lucan, sought for the nurse’s death in London, is living under an assumed name with a different appearance in a country not disclosed, with observation ongoing.
Elvis Presley spent two days at Mid-South Hospital in Memphis for an extensive eye examination. Dr. George Nichopoulos said there were no serious implications and Elvis was released to resume normal activities with no restrictions. The hospitalization was planned around his engagements.
The 1975 Tax Equalization Board for Mesquite and the Mesquite ISD finishes work today. Chairman Mike Moore, Bill Blackwood, and Ross Wilcox preside over 14 taxpayers appealing valuations. Last year 98 protested. this year the session is described as tame and quiet.
