Massive Gas Leak Averted At Mesquite Towne East Mall
A major gas leak at Sears Auto Service Center in Town East Mall, Mesquite, caused evacuations of 25 employees and evacuation of bystanders. Fire crews kept the area safe after turning off electricals and pumping out tanks, with 250-300 gallons released before containment and no injuries reported.

Victim Dies From May 25 Crash in Parkland Hospital
Peggy Daugh erty Caldwell 35 of Wills Point died at 12:15 a.m. Sunday at Parkland Hospital from injuries suffered in a May 25 two car crash on IH 20 in Mesquite. She was a passenger in a car driven by Loreta Copeland Graves of Grand Saline. the other car was driven by a 71-year-old Dallas woman. The Dallas driver had minor injuries. Graves suffered serious injuries. The case was referred to the Dallas County Grand Jury. This was Mesquite’s fifth traffic death in 1975, matching last year’s count at the same time.

Mesquite City Council approved nine of eleven zoning change requests by Hunt Properties in the Skyline Village area after a two and a half hour public hearing before about 75 residents. The session, tied to an 6 p.m. special meeting following a 1:30 p.m. regular session, ends two months of hearings and meetings. The plan comprises several hundred acres with $300 million in investments over four phases in 30 years, including industrial growth.
