Sharif B. Sirhan, elder brother of Sirhan B. Sirhan, faces a July 2 sentencing after a federal jury found him guilty of sending a letter threatening Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir. He could receive up to five years in prison.
A 17 year old boy asked a man in thermodi shirts to hold a fence open so he could steal a watchdog from a car lot. He dragged out a caged Siberian huskie and fled but was arrested. the man in shorts was a plainclothes officer. In California Yo Yo the spotted sand bass is retired after being caught four times in Newport Harbor over 18 months. A San Francisco mayoral committee calls for more fishermen to revive Fishermen's Wharf and its traditional atmosphere.
The White House says Pakistan President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto will begin a six day visit to the United States on July 17. Deputy press secretary Gerald L. Warren said Bhutto will spend two days in Washington before touring other parts of the country. Bhutto studied at the University of California at Berkeley.
The Nevada Supreme Court affirmed a $38,000 insurance claim won by Kebrack Pearce against her husband Stephen Pearce for an April 1969 auto crash on the way to their marriage. The car overturned near Winnemucca, two days before the couple wed, then filed suit. The ruling preserves the right to sue a spouse for injuries occurring before marriage.
Mesquite School Board unanimously approved adding an agri business course to the high school curriculum after state approval. Superintendent Ralph Poteet said the program uses a half day classroom and half day on the job in agri related employment, with state funding covering the course. The board also approved cosmetology as a new vocational option and shifted driver education to the Regional Service Center, raising tuition from 30 to 37.50 per student.
A 27 year old man and a 15 year old boy were arrested inside the Gibson Discount Store at 5101 Gus Thomasson Rd in Mesquite after responding officers found a removed ceiling panel during a 3:55 a.m. burglary alarm. They were found in a store room and later arraigned at the police station awaiting charges of burglarizing a business house.
President Tolbert of Liberia and entourage of about 40 to visit Mesquite Rodeo in Dallas as part of a broader goodwill stay from June 16 to 19. The program includes informal dinner at the Lange Center, a reception at Bishop College, a Sunday sermon, and a national Baptist congress address.

Robert W. Lane of Seagoville asked Mesquite police to recover his Hobart electric welding machine removed illegally from 612 Hickory Tree Mesquite Tuesday. A suspect reportedly hired a vehicle to haul the tool to Lamar Street where he tried to sell it. The machine is valued at $600 and police were seeking its location.
