Police investigated a 1:12 a.m. Wednesday crash on Hyde Park at 4220 Mesquite involving a 1961 Chevrolet pickup that struck a parked 1965 Chevrolet owned by Melvin Ollie Sherrin. The 1961 driver fled but was later detained. the wheeled 1965 truck was pushed 40 feet into a tree and overturned. Damage was $400. witnesses reported blood at the scene as officers questioned companions who had fled.
Mesquite Police report a rise in minor mischief as school ends for summer. Incidents include damaged radios and street lights, broken glass, and BB gun damage to windshields. Several bicycle thefts and a youth arrested for hot-wiring a $500 motorcycle were noted.
A Flag Day ceremony marking the American Revolution Bicentennial will be held Saturday, June 14, at Big Town Shopping Center in Mesquite. Montgomery Ward sponsors with Big Town Mall management and civic leaders. Participants include Mesquite Mayor Bob Beard, County Commissioner David Pickett, Capt. Burnett and Chief Harper of the U S Navy, and Joe Wilson of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
A Pacific National Bank cashier's check cat named CC was accidentally locked in a vault last Friday. The cat’s persistent yowling set off the bank's burglary alarm, causing a weekend disruption before CC was released Monday morning to eat, drink, and roam, much to staff irritation.
Boca Raton police search for a girdle thief after Mary Miller reports a girdle stolen from her bedroom dresser. She says the garment contained a set of keys and $3.80 and was left in a drawer before she returned from church on Sunday.
Police say a thief pried open Pearl Rittle's basement freezer and took a metal box containing $900 in frozen money. Rittle, a waitress, stored wages in plastic bags inside the box before the burglary.
