Rev Joe Dennis represented Baldh Springs at a meeting with Congressman Alan Steelman to form an aging committee. Delegates from the South Congressional District discussed transportation housing and Social Security needs. They plan an August seminar with Steelman and seniors and will meet quarterly with date to be announced.
Texas Court of Criminal Appeals upholds the murder conviction and life sentence of William Paul Pesch of Dallas for the Aug 18 1973 killings of his elderly parents carnival workers found stabbed to death in their trailer in Seagoville. He confessed and pleaded insanity. court found no reversible error.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals orders a new trial for Richard Alden Burrell after ruling the indictment was improperly altered during trial for the 1973 Bald Springs police shooting. The ruling follows Burrell facing an armed robbery related conviction and ruling on a separate homicide investigation in Balch Springs. Funeral services are set for Mrs. Bama Roach in Dallas County with interment planned at Grapevine Cemetery.
The Dallas area marked Prayer Day with a city hall proclamation by Mayor Wes Wise and County Judge John Whittington. Clergy and officials gathered at City Hall and walked to the Presbyterian Church for a private observance reenacting the Continental Congress 200 years earlier.
Balch Springs Bicentennial Committee met at First Bank to approve the parade route for Saturday June 28 at 10 am. The procession forms at First Bank, travels Shephard to Quail to Hickory Tree, then to Lew Park for a short ceremony. Call Pete Harvender at 286-3144 for entries.
Mrs. Georgia Kimball of the Mesquite School Board has accepted appointment as chair of the 1975 Mesquite United Way drive. Buddy Roberts announced the choice and said she will appoint division directors. Kimball is a past PTA leader, active in school boards groups, and serves on multiple civic committees.
Mesquite schools report 1000 students enrolled on the first day of the summer session. Courses include reading enrichment for elementary students through standard academic instruction and summer homemaking. The Fourth of July will be observed as a holiday in the session which ends July 29.
Narinder Singh, a 35 year old Burmese immigrant who recently changed his name to Elvis Presley, prepares to perform in a London factory canteen. He hopes the name change will boost his music career as he strums guitar and sings rock and roll.
A spokesman said the company will reply in court rather than in the press. The FTC notified Idea Research and Development Inc and several employees of a hearing in Washington on July 9 over charges, with a preliminary Dallas hearing also scheduled.
Mesquite Soccer Association teams will clear rocks from Eastfield College fields Saturday at 9 a.m. in a community effort with the City of Mesquite and Dallas County. Volunteers will form a human shield to move rocks and pile them for removal, with prizes for rocks sizes and counts and free sodas for participants.
