Libya nationalized Bunker Hunt Oil Co in a move the home office says was planned two weeks earlier. The seizure targets an arm of H L Hunt's oil empire as Bunker Hunt travels to Dallas amid the announcement.
A baggage loader bruised his leg when a 747 door opened unexpectedly causing Heathrow flights to halt for over two hours. The incident delayed about 1200 passengers as colleagues walked off the job until BOAC promised engineers would inspect the door.
The treasurer of the seaside town of Twigmmouth seeks ideas from residents on how to use a 625000 dollar cash surplus, created by land sales during a hacienda period, before the town merges with six others to form a larger municipality.
Weldon Hogan, former assistant principal at Wilkinson Middle, is named principal of Black Elementary School effective Aug. 1. A Winters, Texas native, he earned degrees from North Texas State University and is pursuing a doctorate at East Texas State University, with an ETA expected in 1974. He and his wife Lois live on 1333 Greenway.
Special efforts by the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce Industrial Committee moved Static Products, Inc., a 45-employee electronics maker, from Garland to an 8,000 square foot site in Mesquite at 3535 Executive Dr. The firm, founded in 1967, produces DC to AC power converters for utilities, oil companies, and data processors and plans to use a 25,000 square foot Mesquite facility.
Superintendent Dr. Ralph Poteet told the School Board that Phase A, a two story classroom block housing 28 teaching stations for 700 to 800 students, will begin within a year to relieve enrollment pressure at Mesquite and North Mesquite High Schools. The larger plan includes a 2,500 student high school, football stadium, domed coliseum, Olympic pool and more on an 87 acre site at Scyene and Peachtree Roads.
Hunt Properties and Moran Hoffman sought zoning for 32 acres forming the Skyline Business Park in Mesquite. The triangular tract bounded by SH 20 Town East and Forney Road is undeveloped within the 1500 acre Skyline area. The firms will design construct lease and manage, coordinating land planning as joint venturers. The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval for City Council consideration.
A 15 year old Louisiana girl was taken to Baylor Hospital after a 3 45 p m collision on LBJ Freeway at LaPrada Dr crossover. A 1967 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Patsy Brooksher slid into a 1967 Ford diesel tractor driven by Winfred Capps. Nevely Ann Ryan 15 of Shreveport suffered minor injuries and was treated at Baylor. Three other children and the driver were uninjured. A separate UPD brief reports a burglar told police he found a woman’s decomposed body in a Brooke lyn apartment.
A Lacys family reunion in Rockport on the Texas Gulf Coast gathers 46 attendees including siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and grandkids for three days of visiting, fishing, and feasting.
