Citywide Planning Committee set for Mesquite meeting
A public meeting on June 15 at 7 30 pm in Mesquite City Hall will form a Citywide Planning Committee. Residents split into six sub groups will pick two reps each for planning workshops and seven development reps will join twelve citizen members and 26 others from city bodies and nearby cities to shape Mesquite's growth and open space while reviewing the 1969 Comprehensive Plan.

Mesquite marks CB Week June 12 to 19 after a Proclamation signed at City Hall. Vernie Erwin opens events at Mesquite Central Shopping Center with sponsor Bob Palmer and Kathy Evans Arbour watching. The Dallas County Citizens Band Bicentennial Break features a Saturday and Sunday in the Mesquite center with a downtown parade, a Saturday dance at AmVets Hall, games and prizes. Proceeds benefit the Scottish Rite Burn Center and Mesquite Regional School for the Deaf.

State to End More Road Jobs in Budget Cutbacks
The Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation expects about 600 jobs to disappear by September 1976 as revenue declines drive cost cutting. Since 1975 the agency has shed 2.2 percent of its staff, with total payroll dropping from about 20,000 in 1972 to 14,850 by Sept. 1, 1976.

Mesquite Building Permits Dip in May 1976
Building permit totals slipped to 581 802 in May marking the first May year to date decline in 1976 versus 1975. Through May the Mesquite Inspection Division issued 7 139 309 in permits, down 28 percent from 9 169 024 a year earlier.

The National Taxpayers Union places Congressman Alan Steelman in the top 10 percent of the fiscal integrity ratings for the first session of the 94th Congress. NTU notes Steelman scored 65 out of 105, with 15 other House members scoring higher led by Rep. McDonald of Georgia at 85.
