UPI reports a small unmanned radio explorer satellite began its five day journey to the Moon atop a Delta rocket from Cape Kennedy. Ground controllers planned a minor mid course correction if needed as the Explorer 49 passed the first hours of flight.

Weekend crime keeps Mesquite police busy
Over the weekend Mesquite police handled two attempted rapes five thefts over fifty dollars four burglaries and 21 miscellaneous complaints. The reported rapes involved two women in apartment parking lots with similar methods but different suspect descriptions. Victims were threatened or assaulted with minor injuries and robbed or left unharmed. Additional thefts included motorcycles hub caps a clock and a guitar with several burglaries at residences and the golf course. Other incidents included vandalism shoplifting and threats harassment currency details noted.

Weekend wrecks injure several in Mesquite
Weekend motor vehicle crashes in Mesquite left multiple people hospitalized. A 1971 Suzuki and 1972 Chevrolet Vega collided on Town East Boulevard injuring Kirkwood William Carter who was transported by Mesquite Fire Department ambulance to Mesquite Memorial Hospital with a broken arm and abrasions. In a separate collision on N Galloway Avenue, Johnny W. Rabe and Mary Rabe sustained minor injuries and were taken to Parkland Hospital. A third crash on the LBJ Freeway off ramp involved Darrell Edmons, 10, described as serious and moved to Mesquite Memorial by ambulance.

Skyjackers Hijack Nepal Flight. Loot Stolen Near Nepal Border
Police across three Indian states hunt three Nepali men after they hijacked a Royal Nepal Airlines Otter flight from Biratnagar to Katmandu. The hijackers diverted to an abandon airfield near the Indian border and fled with about four million Nepalese rupees, a bank shipment. The trio, identified as M. P. Dhungar, B. Bhandari, and P. R. Subedi, were among 13 passengers. Nepalese officials say the hijackers were Nepali nationals seeking loot. The incident marks Royal Nepal’s first hijacking and follows two prior subcontinent air piracy events.

Gunman robs Six Flags over Texas employee
A bandit with a pistol robbed an employee at Six Flags Over Texas of a money bag as the worker moved cash from a booth to the park offices. The amount was not disclosed. The robber pressed a gun to the employee and fled in a station wagon believed driven by a woman.

Bandit Shot With Blow Gun In Dallas Auto Shop
Ray Rodriguez, 35, told police reservist Bill Short at a Dallas auto body shop Saturday night that he shot a bandit with a blowgun. Short reported the bandit fled after Rodriguez sank a 3 1/2 inch dart into his back. Police sought hospital alerts for a man with a dart wound and noted the robbers fled with about $80.
