Census Survey to Gather Household Spending Data
The Bureau of the Census will interview a sample of households in this area during July 1-15 1977 to collect data on spending for home improvement and upkeep. Director Percy Millard of the Dallas regional office said the quarterly survey provides information useful to public and private sectors. Previous surveys show U S expenditures for residential upkeep and improvement in Q4 1976 totaled 7.3 billion dollars.

Mesquite Endures Record Heat and Drought
Mesquite experiences one of its hottest and driest years as May rainfall totals plummet to 0.46 inch and yearly rainfall trails well behind prior years. Struck on TH 30 Police Seek Identity Of Man
Police seek identification of a white male in his early twenties who was struck and killed on SH 635 near IH 30 Friday night around 9:30. He was five foot nine, 168 pounds, brown hair and eyes, dark complexion with a moustache, wearing a brown paisley shirt, blue jeans and brown moccasin boots. He carried a guitar and had over 250 dollars in his possession. A Mesquite girl, 16, drove the car that hit him after the officer tried to warn him with a siren. witnesses say he walked with his back to traffic and narrowly avoided other cars. No ID yet.
