Mesquite Summer School Opens At Mesquite High School
About 1000 students are expected to register for Mesquite schools summer program which begins at 7 a.m on Monday June 9 at Mesquite High School. Middle school students register 9 a.m to noon Thursday and high school students enroll 9 a.m to noon Friday. Tuition is due at registration and no refunds after the third class day. All classes and related reading and speech therapy services run under district personnel supervision. Harold Thompson will serve as summer school principal.

City Auction Draws Crowd as $1292 Sums 118 Items Sold
A Saturday public auction at City Hall parking lot drew a large crowd for Mesquite officials. Auctioneer Jim Murray oversaw 118 items with total proceeds of $1,292.50, the lowest bid 50 cents and many items selling for more amid bidding wars. Youth arrested in Mesquite truck burglary case
Police arrested a 17 year old after a 2930 Eastbrook pickup was broken into at 3 10 am Sunday. Officers recovered a Citizens band radio and stereo equipment found near Eastbrook and Parkside and in the suspect’s 1965 Oldsmobile. A second 17 year old male is being sought as a co suspect.

Tragic Dallas Crash Kills 19 Year Old on Dowdy Ferry Road
A 19 year old, David Oscar Miller of Dallas, died after a 1956 Ford pickup overturned on Dowdy Ferry Road near LBJ Freeway. Driver Luther Corker, 19, and Janet Blair, 22, were injured and hospitalized with non fatal injuries. Police report excessive speed for the curve caused the loss of control and the crash damaged a DP&L light pole.
