Russell Glen Tores was sentenced to life in prison for the April 5 1972 murder of George Jack Youngblood during a robbery at Stewart's Texaco Service Station in Mesquite. Co-defendant Mark Allen Wood also received life. police tied Tores to the shooting after a car stop and discovery of cash and weapons.

Cyclist Hurt In Collision At Belt Line And Bruton
An 18 year old motorcycle rider Tony Lee Hedges of 1420 Hillcrest sustained cuts and scratches when his 1973 Suzuki was rear ended by a 1972 Ford pickup at Belt Line Road and Bruton Road Friday at 2:50 p.m. The rider was taken home by private conveyance. Police officer T. B. Lyon investigated the crash.

New Market Road closure ahead of reconstruction project
City Engineer Bert Elsey announced a section of New Market Road between Braden Street and LBJ Freeway will close to traffic for an undetermined period starting Wednesday June 4. The $600000 reconstruction by Dahlstrom Corp will widen the asphalt segment to a four lane concrete artery with new curb drainage and a bridge rebuild at Paschall Park.

Five Injured When Mustang Crashes on Big Town Blvd
Five people were hurt in a rollover crash on Big Town Blvd near Forney Rd at 1:20 a.m. A 1965 Ford Mustang veered off the road, hit a median curb, crossed the roadway, and plunged through a fence after rolling end-over-end. Injured: Gin ger Smith 18, Joyce Ann Breckenridge 16, Hollis Pritchett 16, Glenn Gandy 21, and Kathy Gandy 17.
