Boy freed after tongue stuck on signpost in cold
A 10 year old boy named Jimmy Land got his tongue stuck to a metal signpost while waiting for the school bus in 10 degree weather in Dover New Hampshire. Four fire trucks responded and the driver pulled the alarm. Firefighters used cold water to release his tongue from the post and the boy was rescued.

Owners Seek Injunction Over Mesquite Annexation Fight
Wel don B Day filed a class action in U S District Court to halt Mesquite from annexing over six square miles east and south of the current city limits claiming the move violates due process under the fifteenth amendment and serves a land development scheme. The suit names Mesquite City Council Mayor Robert Beard and City Manager Billy G York as defendants and seeks a permanent injunction against taxation of the plaintiffs lands.

Methodist youths ski trip survives setbacks to reach Red River
More than 27 members from First Methodist Church Mesquite enjoyed a long planned ski trip to Lazy Bear Lodge New Mexico despite setbacks. The group of 21 youths and chaperones led by Rev and Mrs Mike Anderson traveled 14 hours by church bus, arriving amid heavy snows. To fund the trip, the youths held car washes rummage and bake sales and citrus fruit sales earning over 2500 while a burglary stole about 350. Costs ran about 100 per person and fuel shortages shortened the return by a day.

DST Won't Change School Hours In Mesquite
Superintendent Dr Ralph Poteet says the Mesquite schools will keep regular hours from 8 30 am to 4 30 pm despite daylight saving time starting Jan 6. Admin plans to stay with regular hours to avoid problems for working parents and students. Bus routes will run on their usual schedules after the change.

Firemen Battle Wind Whip blaze at 931 Gus Thomasson Rd
Mesquite firefighters battled a stubborn ice coated blaze at a three bedroom frame house owned by GL Grubb and occupied by Gene E Linthicon at 6 35 pm on a windy 27 degree night. Back of the house was badly burned with total damage pegged at 8500. Fire started when live coals were discarded from a fireplace into trash on the back porch. All residents evacuated. Fire Marshal Victor D ONeal noted the back was the origin and the rest of the dwelling had extensive damage. The crew faced a 25 to 30 mph north wind and an ice covered fire line.
