Increased efforts by the Hot Check Control office of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce and the Mesquite Police Department are making life harder for people who swindle with worthless checks. A man on a Mesquite Police Department warrant was arrested and will face felony hot checking in Dallas County. Restitution was made on two other hot checks to a Mesquite Hot Check Control member. A 31 year old white female was also arrested on a Dallas County Sheriff's Office warrant in connection with three misdemeanor hot check cases and jailed on bond. Merchants are urged to be alert for fraud during the Christmas shopping season.

Services Held For Son In Rowlett Tragedy
Funeral services were held for 12 year old Larry Wayne Shipley of Route 2 Rosehill Road in Rowlett at the Anderson Clayton Funeral Home Chapel in Mesquite. Burial followed at Mills Cemetery. His father John D. Shipley 50 remains missing after their speed boat struck an unidentified object and sank in Lake Ray Hubbard near Barnes Bridge Road. A search by game wardens and state wildlife officers with Dallas authorities continued as of Sunday. Cold 23 degree temperatures hampered the effort and may keep the body submerged.
