DALLAS UPI reports plans to locate a new Xerox product development and manufacturing facility on 495 acres in Lewisville about 20 miles northwest of downtown Dallas. Xerox hopes to start construction early in 1974 with occupancy scheduled to begin in the following year.
About 1,400 North Texas residents including many in Mesquite and Falken Springs face unclaimed refund checks totaling 3.198 million. IRS North Texas District Director W T Coppinger released a list of undeliverable names and urged claimants to contact the local IRS office with full identification and pertinent details to establish rightful refunds. The notice also indicates additional past-due refunds may exist and provides required information to verify eligibility. City Council members are slated to attend a Texas Municipal League District 13 meeting in Dallas tonight, with most expected to attend.
Mesquite school trustees approval activates a 14 point energy conservation program drawn from 5,000 high school student suggestions and 1,400 district staff. Measures include teaching units on energy, shutting heat at 2 30 am, lowering thermostats, reduced nonessential lighting, and restricted after hours use.
Fire officials say an efficient sprinkler system prevented a larger blaze at Sanger Harris in Town East Mall. The fire started around 12 45 pm Sunday in the men’s department, caused by leaking dry cell batteries, and damaged merchandise and carpet mainly from water. Mesquite units removed water and salvaged displays, with estimated damage set at 5000.
A Christmas concert at North Mesquite High School Auditorium features choirs from Vanston and McDonald Middle Schools North Mesquite High School and the Mesquite Boys Choir. The program starts at 7:30 PM Tuesday with admission 1.25 for adults and 0.75 for students.
