Mesquite Chamber of Commerce launches annual outdoor decorations contest running through Christmas. Dr. Jack Nelson says all Mesquite homes or businesses are eligible with ten cash awards. judging divides the city into five areas. area winners receive 10 and 5 dollars, while the top overall entry wins 30 dollars. Entries no cost and judging takes place December 17 to 22 with winners announced December 22.
All entries will be judged during the week of December 17 to 22. Mesquite Planning and Zoning Commission meets Monday December 11 at 7 30 p m to consider Drummond Oil Company amendment to zoning ordinance for commercial designation on Tract 1 Sheet 1 Abstract 1461 T Thomas Survey at 4436 Gus Thomasson Rd. Mesquite constable Homer DeMoss was reelected president of the Dallas County Justice of the Peace and Constables Association during the Christmas party and meeting at the Holiday Inn in Mesquite. Jack Richburg became vice president, Ann King treasurer, and T. A. Vines secretary with by law changes proposed to grant voting rights and office eligibility to employes. The association, affiliated with the state group, seeks to preserve constable and peace justice status amid 1974 constitutional efforts.
Mesquite school trustees hold a special 7 p.m. session to sell 2.1 million in bonds for air conditioning ten buildings and to appoint a W. T. Ponder successor, with a regular 7:30 p.m. meeting to review finances, policies, and staff changes. Dr. Joey M. Pirring is out due to a heart attack. Bill Ewing likely presides.
Arville Woodruff of Hot Springs reported his 1964 International cab and 40 foot flat bed trailer, owned by Bates Lumber Co., stolen from the east side of the Mid Continent Truck Stop at 2614 Big Town Blvd around 12 a.m. The theft left the engine running and doors unlocked, with about six hours before discovery. Lumber worth 4000 dollars and truck value 9000 dollars contributed to total losses of about 13790 dollars.
Mesquite Chamber of Commerce President Ken Pace urged area home builders to engage in community life through chamber membership. Pace, also a First National Bank of Mesquite vice president, told about 450 chamber members and builders at Dallas Athletic Country Club that consumerism drives demand for higher quality work and community involvement. Alex Sanders introduced Pace and Smith, who outlined the chamber's goals of economic growth and a better business climate.
Mesquite High School bands present a 7:30 p m concert in the school auditorium. Varsity under Alton Polk performs What Child Is This Little Drummer Boy O Holy Night Noel White Christmas and more. Freshman band directed by Daryl Hinde plays Echoes de Noel Jingle Bells Around the World Winter Wonderland Christmas Suite. Tickets available at the door or from band members.
Four people received slight injuries in a two car collision Friday at the Gus Thomasson Road Highland Village Drive intersection in Mesquite. Sharon Eaton Williams and Doris Clark Hammonds were the drivers. two passengers also were hurt but none were hospitalized.
