A strong norther swept into Mesquite Tuesday night driving temperatures from the 50s to 20 degrees. By 11 am the day barely reached 24 as ice patches appeared on streets and bridges. City crews spread gravel to clear trouble spots and curb hazards. Weather reports noted the wind chill near four below zero in Dallas County.
Michael Holland, 4, wandered from his Brown County, Ohio farm on Monday. After a 24 hour search by about 400 people he was found five miles away with a touch of frostbite but in good spirits. Deputy Dick Phillips described his calm reaction and cooperation with neighbors who fed him breakfast.

Three Mesquite Fire Department officials toured Bowie Junior High School in Irving on Monday to assess damage from the blaze.
