The Mesquite City Council heard plans for two large new stores The Treasury J C Penney and White Stores Inc. both seeking waivers of commercial alley requirements The Treasury a 178000 square foot J C Penney outlet in the LBJ Freeway Town East Mall area is slated to open in March 1973 as a high quality value store similar in size to Target The White Stores site will be a 28000 square foot outlet at Kearney and Galloway replacing the smaller White store The council unanimously approved waivers for both locations
Industrial developers of Dallas County will receive personal visits from Mesquite Chamber of Commerce representatives Wednesday and Thursday. Members of the Mesquite Chamber's Industrial Development Committee, headed by James Ragsdale, will meet at the CC office at 10 a.m. Wednesday before calling on industrial real estate firms and key agencies. Ken Smith said the committee will deliver Mesquite's new industrial brochure.
In a city series note Mayor George Boyce warns that the holiday period brings heightened pickpocket activity. He explains how thieves exploit crowds and common habits, urging caution with hip and breast pocket wallets, sturdy purses, and vigilant handling in public spaces to prevent purse snatching and wallet theft.
Mesquite City Council approved a special permit for a Mobil Oil self service gas station at the Oates Drive and Gus Thomasson Road site. The meeting also authorized grant applications to Texas Traffic Safety Administration for a Local Selective Traffic Enforcement Program and a Local Traffic Safety Program, plus HUD funds for a Management Systems Study.
A two-vehicle crash on the east service road of LBJ Freeway at Scvene Road injured three people. Janita R. McIntire of Rockwall drove a 1972 Ford Pinto. Frederick K. Litton of Mesquite drove a 1966 Ambassador. Litton was seriously hurt. his passenger Lanny Litton had minor injuries. Mrs. McIntire sustained minor injuries. Ambulances transported victims to Parkland Hospital and Mesquite Memorial Hospital. The incident followed by Mesquite City Council actions including highway resolutions, bids for cement and asphaltic concrete, January meeting date changes, and zoning ordinances for Royal Land and Development, North Mesquite tracts, and a Krancher amusement park.
Rex Miller, set to head the Texas Employment Commission office opening soon in Mesquite, will speak at the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Club meeting on Thursday December 7. He will outline TEC services for business and professional men and describe the new Mesquite branch operations. Reservations are $1.75 and can be made by calling the Chamber office at 285 0211.
Children send thoughtful Santa Claus letters to the Mesquite Daily News with pencil drawings of elves, sleighs, and fireplaces. Letters near legible will be printed between now and Christmas. bring or mail letters to 303 N Galloway Ave by Dec 18. The paper forwards originals to Santa at the North Pole.
