Rep. Dan Rostenkowski refused to plead guilty to a felony and stated he would fight an expected corruption indictment. He said he would temporarily step aside as Ways and Means chair if indicted but remain in Congress and seek a 19th term. The U.S. Attorney’s Office offered a guilty plea for under a year in prison and resignation. The charges include improper staff work, misuse of House Post Office funds, personal use of government vehicles, and gifts purchased with official funds. He has reimbursed about 82000 dollars and vowed to present a compelling case to the jury.
