Bond decision looms for Maricopa County community colleges
The Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board will vote to seek a $459 million bond in the November election. If approved, homeowners would face about $17 yearly tax increase on an $86,000 home. Chancellor Paul Elsner cites rapid enrollment growth and plans to expand classroom space by 50 percent across 10 colleges and centers. Funds would cover facilities, upgrades, energy conservation, and special projects, with no new campus planned. The measure follows a 1992 bond setback and a 1984 success, and, if approved, goes to the State Board for consent before the November ballot. The board meets at 7 p.m. at Tempe district offices. the meeting is open to the public.
