Florence Cathedral Cupola Restored After Five Years of Scaffolding
The cupola of Florence’s Santa Maria del Fiore has been restored after five years of scaffolding. Visitors can ride an elevator to the lowest scaffolding level starting Feb 1 to view Zuccari’s devils and damned faces, then climb ladders to Vasari’s heaven. Restorers report discoveries as centuries of dirt and candle smoke are removed.
