Mesa group pushes to give square dance official status
Arizona Senate Committee backed a bill to name square dance the official state folk dance by a 7 to 2 vote. Proponents from Mesa argued popularity with 185 Arizona chapters, while opponents urged broader state recognition or governor involvement. The measure now moves to a full Senate vote before House consideration.
