Attorney General Janet Reno rejected Republican demands for a special prosecutor in the Clinton Arkansas real estate inquiry. She asserted the investigation is run by DOJ career prosecutors with her ultimate responsibility, while Senator Dole urged a court-appointed independent prosecutor. The clash followed White House aides complaining of partisan attacks amid the Whitewater probe.
