Eight fatalities reported over the holiday weekend across the state with East Valley spared. In Tempe two women were badly hurt in a single car crash at Lake Shore and Sandpiper drives as the driver lost control and hit a tree. The driver Patrick Kee, 20, of Scottsdale was booked for drunken driving. A 77 year old New York woman died and a 54 year old driver was seriously hurt in Scottsdale from a one vehicle crash on Scottsdale Road near Eastwood Lane. Names were not released. A Cessna 175 crash in Peoria killed two people after failing to clear a fence after takeoff from Pleasant Valley Airport. The plane struck a fence and then a saguaro.
