Mayor Wong was absent due to illness and Reno Hawker was unable to vote due to a conflict of interest.
Maricopa County negotiators are allowed until mid January to present a plan to the Board of Supervisors to levy a quarter cent sales tax for a new big league baseball stadium. Deputy County Attorney Joe Duke said a December 15 deadline sought by Jerry Colangelo is unworkable. Colangelo’s lobbyist Jay Thorne said the new date is acceptable.
Friends recall the founding member who helped build the Tempe band into a gold record act. He struggled with alcohol after leaving the group and was despondent in Tempe. Police said he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his Tempe apartment.
