Mesa mother and children escape burning van near taco bell

Paraplegic Jhennhea Thuenen and her three children rode through a routine border run when their van smoked and caught fire at a Taco Bell lot near Broadway and Lindsay. The van auto-started as Thuenen tried to restart it, trapping her as smoke filled the cabin. A passerby couple named Judy and Doug helped evacuate her from the ramp while paramedics arrived. Scottsdale Eyes Champlin Fighter Museum Move

Scottsdale City Council approved initial funding for a 2.6 million 100000 square foot Champlin Fighter Museum at Scottsdale and Thunderbird roads. The plan relies on a 3 percent hotel tax over 20 years and ticket surcharges plus lease payments to cover costs, with bed tax funds filling gaps. The move seeks to keep the museum, founded in 1981 by Doug Comme, from remaining at Falcon Field in Mesa.
