The Tucson Star notes that stockmen face growing calf stealing in southern Pima where honest herdsmen struggle amid arrests and harsh sentences that might deter thieves.

The venture promises mining and agricultural growth with a model town site, feeder water supply, and early settlers.
Yuma public school teachers will join a teachers joint institute in Tucson during the holidays with a reduced travel rate offered by the 8 P company. A circular records a three day teachers meeting for southern Arizona in Tucson on December 29 30 and 31. The Southern Pacific Railroad will offer a rate of one and one fifth faras for round trips and hotels will extend attendance discounts. Globe mines, idle while disputes linger, are expected to resume operations soon, boosting the camp’s economy.
Governor McCord and Chancellor Hughes traveled to Pasadena to secure Dr. Millard M. Parker as president of the territorial university. The board’s committee quoted Parker’s strong qualifications and endorsed him after visits to Los Angeles and Pasadena.
A report notes Dr Parker will take charge about the tenth of the month as the institution expects rapid forward strides under his leadership and expresses belief that the right man is chosen for the presidency.
The preliminary examination of Eugene Daley Frank Steele and John Riggs for the murder of Andy Grant was held before Judge Pomeroy. The body was exhumed and an autopsy found no skull fracture. after prosecution testimony the charge was reduced to manslaughter and the defendants were bound to the grand jury with $2000 bail each.
