Surprising party denial clouds Mesa club tale

The Mesa Independent Club girls dispute last week’s surprise party story about John Wallace and claim the celebration was for John’s sister Miss Mallie. They deny drivers Fay and Gracie Newell aided the wagon, with Ada Ruse at the whip and Gracie asleep below. They insist they did not upset the canal or sink in mud four times. A tug was damaged but functional, aided by baling wire, and the party returned home before dawn.
