The speaker warns against dividing Maricopa County while noting one woman suffrage bill in the Council and two in the lower house. Judge Hakes proposes submitting the question to territorial voters, seen as the most rational. The legislature is urged to focus on developing water, agriculture, horticulture, and mining resources with diligent effort.
A Mesa county division gathering in Social Hall elected Harvey J. Harper chair and Dr. Wilbur secretary. A five member committee was appointed to study county division and report in one week, with an amendment opposing any plan to divide Maricopa County carried by a large majority. The final committee members were J. H. Pomeroy H. S. Peterson Jas. F. Johnson H. Simkins and A. P. Shewman.
A warning is issued to individuals around Mesa who round up and convert Indian horses for their use. The notice states no offense will be tolerated after February 1, 1897, and any person found in possession will be arrested and prosecuted.
