Nearly two years after the railroad reached Mesa a county wagon road was declared open to Tempe along Main Street. The road remains closed and locals question why it has not been opened while the railroad line makes travel hazardous for horses and drivers, forcing reliance on the longer telephone road.

Witnesses Hyrum Peterson Chais Pine William M Newell and Charles Lewis all of Mesa Arizona. First published November 13 1896.
In the Territory of Arizona the matter of the estate of William N Standage, deceased, has an order to show cause why an order of sale of real estate should not be made and a hearing on the annual account. The court fixes January 12, 1897 at 10:00 a.m. in Phoenix for hearing the petition and report, with notice to all interested parties. A copy of this order is to be published in the Mesa Free Press for four weeks. The deed is signed in open court December 10, 1896 by C W Crouse.
