A Memorial Day address honors veterans and fallen heroes, urging unity and Christian duty. Speakers praise Lincoln and the founding ideal of equality, call for national healing, and vow to honor the dead with deeds of service. The message pleads to spare the living from sorrow and to uphold liberty and justice.
Thousands gathered in Delafield for the dedication of a vertical granite shaft honoring the Cushings, three brothers who served in the Civil War. The event, pushed by the Waukesha Historical Society, highlights Alonzo, William Barker, and Howard Cushings and their wartime service from West Point to Annapolis. The piece recalls their mother’s quiet strength and the family’s Wisconsin roots.
In the assembly last week an amendment of merit was offered to Hon. W. H. Edwards regarding laws prohibiting boys under 18 from working in stone quarries. Edwards argued that in many localities boys can earn good wages and that quarry work is not the most dangerous occupation. He also suggested that strict enforcement could cause loafing, and noted that under 18 labor might be permissible outside explosive handling.
The baccalaureate sermon for the graduates of Fendermone Falls High School will be delivered by Rev H L Barth of St Pauls Evangelical Church on Sunday evening June 6 at 7 30. Rev T KE Foss of the M B Church will officiate. the choir will sing with Rev GC Ditter at the pipe organ and Emil Hornley will sing. Everyone is invited.
In a Sunday game at Lannon the strong Lannon team faces Mecomonee Falls with Hohensee and Caeser catching for Falls and Thoma and Wisicek for Lannon. Fussville travels to No Milwaukee for a tight contest after Menomenee Falls lost 3 to 0 to North Milwaukee and Fussville defeated Falls 4 to 1 at home.
James Butler, a longtime Lisbon resident and prominent local farmer, died May 26 at his brother John’s home from apoplexy after a day of routine tasks. Born October 9, 1869, he never married and belonged to a storied pioneer family. his funeral was led by Rev. Foss of the M. E. Church and burial followed at Number Sixteen Cemetery.
A quiet wedding took place June 2, 1915 at St. Honiface Church Goldentaal with Miss Helen Schuster of GermanTown marrying Mr. Berman Hahnisch of Milwaukee. Officiating was Reverend Wurm. The bride wore ivory satin and yellow roses. Maid of honor Lillian Schuster, bridesmaid Veronica Burgwald, best man Harry Schuster. A family dinner followed at the bride’s home.
