Hotel National to reopen under Mrs T H Dunn in Polk county

Mrs T H Dunn plans to reopen the Parker House at Howert avenue and Mena street as the National hotel after extensive remodeling. The building will be moved back, verandas added, rear extension built, and exterior repainted. Opening will be delayed until improvements finish, with management aiming for a first class standard. Also noted is a September 24 wedding of Miss Katherine Mershon to Mr Will McDonald at the uncle’s home, and Polk county to host a Polk mineral display at the Omaha exposition under M E Durham with a Janssen park meeting Friday night.

Heroic Packers Save Front With Remedy From Tampa Letter

A July letter from Pp. E. Butler in Santiago de Cuba credits Chamberlain's Colic Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy with saving the packers' health and life during a rush to supply troops. Attempted Jail Break On Disturbing the Peace Offender

Ed Adkinson, fined $10 for disturbing the peace with his merrygo round, attempted to break jail Monday night. He made loud noises. officers summoned him to the county jail for safekeeping. He aimed to exit through a door but had the hinge bolt nearly off when discovered.

Slate samples tour by St. John from Mena to Kansas City and Carthage

A. W. St. John left Monday for Kansas City and Carthage with red and black slate samples from Mena quarries to drum up interest. His granddaughter Pauline Ellison travels with him toward St. Louis. Wm. Estell and family of Hot Springs visited last week, may move here. Estell serves in the Fish Arkansas Vol and expects muster out soon.

Hand Injury Incident and Club Meeting

A 9-year-old son of R A Gately suffered a severe hand injury when a hatchet struck his third and fourth fingers while kindling with his brother. Doctors hope to save the third finger. The Women's Literary Club plans its first meeting of the season at Mrs A W St John's home next Tuesday afternoon October 4 with a focus on the Dutch Republic and expectations of full attendance.
